Hallo allemaal en welkom terug! We hopen dat iedereen een fijne zomervakantie heeft gehad. Er staat weer een berg aan activiteiten op stapel en we hebben er zin in!

Master Class by Dr. Bok Kyu Choi:

 “An Introduction to the Classic Korean Sword”

Part I - Theory class 10:30 to 12: 00
After this theory class you will:
1)    be able to distinguish Korean swordsmanship from Japanese and Chinese swordsmanship;
2)    be able to identify different types of Korean swords by their proper names and appreciate the craftsmanship of Korean swords;
3)    be familiar with the Korean swordsmanship classics Chosŏn Sebŏp and Ponguk kŏm;
4)    be able to summarize the origins of Korean swordsmanship and its historical context.

Korean lunch served at the Lipsius Building 12:15 – 13:00

Part II - Practice class 13:30 to 15:30
After this practise class you will have experienced:
1)    the standards in basic stances and movements for swordsmanship;
2)    the four ‘mother techniques’ of the sword and their hierarchy;
3)    yungno to-pŏp: the six basic routines of the classic Korean sword;
4)    the ancient energy activating exercises specifically for swordsmanship.

Eligible for registration: Korean martial arts professionals: masters and (assistant) instructors from 1st dan and higher.

Participation fee: € 85,- including vat, Korean lunch and syllabus.

The speaker: Dr. Bok Kyu Choi, born in 1969 in Seoul, attained a master’s degree of Seoul National University with a thesis on the reconstitution of Korean Traditional Martial Arts and its significance today. He obtained a Ph.D. at Seoul National University with a dissertation on the Historical Background of the compilation of the Muyedobot’ongji and the discourse on the martial arts. He publishes with the Ehwa University Press, the Seoul National University Press and the Korean national newspapers Chosun Ilbo and the Munhwa Ilbo.
